Philippines Rocks for Fully Abled Nation

Over a thousand fans and more than 200 persons with disabilities (PWDs) came together in Eastwood City in Metro Manila for a free concert to encourage and inspire PWDs to vote in the May 2013 midterm elections in the Philippines. Dubbed “Rock for a Fully Abled Nation,” the concert was part of a larger campaign to arrest the decline of PWD participation in elections. A recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed that the number of PWDs who actually voted has gone down from 60 percent in 2007 to 54 percent in the 2010 elections. The program, known as Fully Abled Nation or FAN, is implemented by The Asia Foundation as part of Australian Aid’s program on Disability-Inclusive Development.
