Supporting Stronger Anti-Trafficking Legislation in Mongolia
Mongolia is now recognized as a source and destination country for victims of human trafficking. In its latest “Trafficking in Persons Report”, the US State Department recommends that Mongolia pass more specific laws providing for victim and witness protection. In support of stronger government participation in the fight against trafficking, The Asia Foundation and its partners in Mongolia are working with coalitions of NGOs and lawmakers to draft a standalone law on combating trafficking in persons and advocate for its passage in Parliament. These groups recently met in Ulaanbaatar to discuss the draft law and to rally support for getting the issue onto Parliament’s schedule.
