The Asia Foundation Hosts “Trump 2.0 and the Indo-Pacific” Roundtable Dialogue

On November 27, The Asia Foundation co-hosted the Trump 2.0 and the Indo-Pacific roundtable dialogue with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in India. The roundtable featured Dr. Tanvi Madan, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, and LIM Sang-Woo, Minister of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of India, as panelists. Country Representative Kyungjin Song moderated the dialogue.

After Dr. Song made a brief introduction about The Asia Foundation, she invited the two panelists to provide insight on the potential impacts of the Trump 2.0 administration in Asia and the Pacific, with a focus on Korea-United States, U.S.-India, Korea-India, and Korea-US-India relations.

According to Tanvi Madan, Trump’s policies toward China are likely to significantly shape the United States strategy in the Asia-Pacific region. She emphasized that Trump’s strong stances on trade, immigration, and security issues would profoundly impact America’s allies and partners.

Sang-Woo Lim underscored the advanced relations between the United States and India, predicting that India would continue to adapt flexibly to Trump’s policy shifts. He also highlighted the importance of Korea strengthening relations with India.

Following the panel presentations, experts from academia, media, and the corporate sector engaged in a lively and candid discussion.

The Asia Foundation’s office in Korea continues to facilitate dialogue on a wide range of critical regional and global issues impacting the lives of the people in Asia and the Pacific.
