The Asia Foundation Organizes US Indo-Pacific Study Tour

In partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, The Asia Foundation implemented a one-week U.S. Indo-Pacific study tour to Vietnam, Singapore, and the Philippines for 8 Korean broadcast journalists, accompanied by The Asia Foundation Korea and U.S. Embassy Seoul staff.

Catalyzed by recent South Korean government support of the U.S. Indo-Pacific policy, the current political climate in South Korea creates a window of opportunity to strengthen U.S.-Korea relations through an informed and objective media, including for reporting related to the U.S. Indo-Pacific Strategy. The main objective of the study tour is to deepen Korean opinion leaders’ understanding of current key U.S. policies in the Indo-Pacific region and its partnership with Korea, to promote the overall vision of increasing the quality of reporting that can promote stronger bilateral ties.

Journalists had a dialogue with local thought leaders and representatives from U.S. Embassies and the U.S. military. They also met with host-country governments, think tank researchers, and journalists for knowledge exchange. Highlights from the tour included a presentation on Vietnam’s low-emission energy program in Hanoi; a strategy briefing by the U.S. Embassy in Singapore; and a roundtable discussion with Philippine journalists in Manila.
