Program Officer, Malaysia

Li Yang Lau is a program officer for The Asia Foundation in Malaysia. Prior to joining The Asia Foundation, he worked with the Government Affairs team at Shopee Malaysia, managing strategic partnerships initiatives with the Malaysian government such as ShopeePay’s Retail Digitalisation Initiative, Jualan Rahmah Campaign, and Buy Malaysia Campaign, which aim to empower local entrepreneurs in the growing digital economy. He also worked as an activism coordinator for Amnesty International Malaysia, where he mobilized supporters to support campaigns to abolish the death penalty, protect freedom of expression, and support individuals at risk.

He continues to contribute to the human rights movement as a board member for Amnesty International Malaysia and the Society for the Promotion of Human Rights.

Education: Li Yang Lau holds a bachelor’s degree in International and Strategic Studies from the University of Malaya and is an alumnus of the Young Southeast Asian Leadership Initiative.
