2023 Luce Scholar

Lolayemi Charles is a student, advocate, and changemaker. Lolayemi is currently finishing her final year at New York University, where she is studying Global Public Health and Sociology with a minor in Chemistry. Lolayemi eventually plans to pursue medicine and attain a master’s degree in Public Health with the goal of becoming an emergency medicine physician. She looks forward to providing clinical care to underserved populations both within the United States and internationally. Lolayemi’s clinical and research interests lie at the intersection of social inequality and health outcomes. Therefore, much of Lolayemi’s research and clinical work is focused on highlighting various social issues as significant public health problems. Lolayemi also works as the associate director of research for the Empower Lab, where she leads research teams and engages with research surrounding the topics of intimate partner violence, trauma-informed care, and sex trafficking.
