Chief People Officer

Sharon Thompson is chief people officer for The Asia Foundation. In this position, Sharon is responsible for developing and executing talent strategy for the entire Foundation, improving global HR processes, policies, and compliance, revising and sustaining an equitable and competitive compensation and benefits structure, building a cohort of passionate and talented human resource professionals across the Foundation, and contributing to the Foundation’s commitment to being a welcoming, fair, and inspiring place to work. 

Sharon has served in HR leadership positions in large international nonprofit organizations and for-profit corporations for more than two decades. Most recently, she was director of Global Benefits at Meta Platforms, where she pioneered the corporation’s first wellness strategy and initiated many innovative global benefits programs. Highlights of her previous roles include forming the first talent review process and directing training and leadership development programs. 

Education: Sharon Thompson holds a master’s degree in Human Resources Management from Golden Gate University in San Francisco and a bachelor’s degree in Public Health from Dillard University in New Orleans. She also completed the Human Resources Executive Program at Stanford University. Her other qualifications include Senior Professional Human Resources, Human Resources Certification Institute; Certified Compensation Professional, World at Work Project Management Certificate Program from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
