Chief, Strategic Engagement

Kelly Deuster is the chief of strategic engagement, where she leads the organization’s work in individual philanthropy and strategic communications.

Before stepping into her current role, Kelly held leadership positions in branding and communications agencies, where she developed engagement strategies for start-ups, nonprofits, and Fortune 100 companies in North America, Europe, and Asia. Kelly’s experience also includes working on the philanthropy team of Save the Children Canada and managing emergency communications and voter education after the 2004 tsunami in Aceh, Indonesia. She is known for her ability to bridge big-picture strategy with hands-on collaboration, fostering a culture of shared purpose across teams.

Kelly holds a graduate degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, with a specialization in Southeast Asia studies, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Virginia. Her global perspective is also shaped by her lived experience growing up in Indonesia and the Philippines. She has family in Indonesia, Canada, and the United States.
