Lead, Collaborative Governance Pilot, Nepal

Sumina Karki is the lead for Inclusive Governance and Collaborative Governance Pilot for The Asia Foundation in Nepal. Since joining the Foundation in 2014, her portfolio has encompassed strategic peacebuilding and dialogue, women’s political leadership, disability and social inclusion, governance and policy reform, media, and cross-office, cross-program leadership development. She is a core member of the Senior Leadership Team and the office’s Impact Pillar.  

Since joining the Foundation, she has effectively designed, implemented, and managed multiple programs and led research on context analysis and political economy. In 2022, she led a team that won the Foundation’s Presidential Award. She has led the drive to strengthen the flagship subnational governance program and the Nepal office’s organizational governance. For the governance portfolio, she has provided strategic guidance to design robust systems and processes that help integrate and design projects targeted to strengthen government-citizen engagement, which was recognized by an independent evaluator as having outstanding design. Sumina leads innovative programs that integrate political economy analysis and problem- and issue-based approaches. She is a certified trainer on dialogue and peacebuilding and has conducted several interactive and reflective workshops and training on the topics. She has played a key role in mentoring local partner organizations and accompanying them to facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogue between different levels of government. Sumina has a postgraduate diploma in Social Sciences from the Nepa School of Social Sciences and Humanities and a master’s degree in Anthropology from Tribhuvan University. She is currently pursuing an additional master’s degree in Public Policy and Governance.
