Cambodia: Civil Society Organization and Community Scoping Study
Drawing on scoping studies conducted in 2024, the Amplify country briefs provide an overview of current peace and security challenges women experience at all levels of society in Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Myanmar. Using a human security lens, the briefs also highlight how The Asia Foundation, through its AMPLIFY regional initiative, with support from New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, is working to address these issues in alignment with and in support of ASEAN’s Women, Peace and Security agenda.
In Cambodia, the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agend has gained traction in recent years, with the country lauded at the regional level for its leadership in supporting women peacekeepers on international missions and supporting the development of WPS policy at a regional level in ASEAN. Nevertheless, domestic WPS implementation remains a work in progress, and several inhibitors to women’s peace and security remain in Cambodia. There continues to be some unfamiliarity with the concept of WPS amongst women’s groups and certain government actors, which influences its uptake and implementation at a national level.
