Managing Municipal Revenues in the Time of Covid-19
Covid-19 is having a profound impact on cities across the world. Beyond the immediate public health impacts city authorities are grappling with economic slowdowns and restrictions on their own abilities to operate.
This first paper in a two-part series, examines the potential impact of Covid-19 on municipalities collection of revenues. Scenario analysis of data from Taunggyi, Pathein and Mandalay suggests Myanmar’s municipalities must brace themselves for a drop in revenues and prepare themselves for some hard choices on how to maintain essential services while supporting economic recovery.
