The Asia Foundation 2024 Annual Report
For more than 70 years, The Asia Foundation has been an agile and experienced leader in delivering cost-effective programs in dynamic and complex settings across Asia and the Pacific. In 2024, as we have for decades, we applied our long-term presence, trusted relationships, and vast knowledge to design and implement tailored, innovative, and adaptable programs to help solve the toughest social, economic, and governance challenges in Asia and the Pacific. Some of the programs highlighted in this report concluded in 2024, and some ended in early 2025 with the reduction of U.S. foreign assistance. Other TAF programs are continuing with generous support from a range of donors, including the governments of Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand, Google.org, the Luce Foundation, and individual philanthropists.
Last year, our programs:
- Expanded the use of digital tools and data to improve local government service delivery in Nepal and Indonesia.
- Worked with authors and illustrators to produce books that reached more than one million young readers in dozens of languages.
- Provided digital skills training to hundreds of thousands of micro and small businesses in Southeast Asia to help them grow their businesses and increase revenue.
- Provided emerging leaders in Asia with fellowship and exchange opportunities to learn from government, academic, and private sector leaders in the United States.
- Trained government officials and law enforcement in the Pacific Islands to recognize signs of human trafficking and take action to prosecute cases and prevent new criminal activity.
These are just some of the many impacts of the programs TAF and our partners conducted across Asia and the Pacific in 2024. Going forward, despite the changing foreign assistance landscape, we remain committed to delivering impactful programs promoting locally shaped and owned solutions that foster sustainable change and growth.
