Applications Open for East Asia Summit Hackathon on Combatting Marine Plastic

The Asia Foundation is teaming up with the ASEAN Foundation, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), and the governments of Australia, India, and Singapore to host the East Asia Summit (EAS) Hackathon on Combatting Marine Plastic. The hackathon is calling for applicants aged 18-25 from across the Asia-Pacific to take part in creating innovative digital solutions to address plastic pollution.
On December 13 in Jakarta, Indonesia, teams of talented software developers and tech enthusiasts from across the region will be invited to take part in the three-day hackathon. The objective is to empower the region’s next generation to create digital solutions to address (1) how governments and local communities can more accurately monitor marine litter in hot-spot areas and (2) how small businesses can be incentivized to minimize plastic use and recycle.

The first prize winner will win a cash prize of $7,000 USD, participate in the incubator program of CSIRO’s Plastic Innovation Hub in Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Mekong, and present their plastic pollutions solution at the Expanded ASEAN Maritime Forum or East Asia Summit.
Applications are open until November 14. Visit ASEAN Foundation to learn more and apply.
