Herizal Hazri to Lead Malaysian Institute of Strategic and International Studies

This month, our country representative in Malaysia, Herizal Hazri, becomes the new executive director of Malaysia’s premier think tank, the Malaysian Institute of Strategic and International Studies.

Herizal has been with the Foundation in Malaysia since 2005. As deputy country representative in 2012, he was part of the International Contact Group that helped forge the historic agreement between the Philippines government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, ending decades of brutal conflict in Mindanao. After his appointment as country representative in 2014, he developed and led the Foundation’s work in Sabah to build community resilience against violent extremism, and he was instrumental in developing and launching the Foundation’s Advanced Middle-Income Countries program in Malaysia.

With the clock ticking and his bags almost packed, this accomplished development professional sat down with podcast hosts Tracie Yang and John Rieger to reflect on his work at the Foundation and look at what lies ahead.
