Let’s Read Launches Nationwide #ReadEveryday Campaign in Cambodia

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport in collaboration with The Asia Foundation and other partners, launched a nationwide reading campaign called #ReadEveryDay. This unique campaign encourages families, teachers, and librarians to create fun and positive reading experiences with at least 100,000 children every day between March 6-15.

The launch was presided over by H.E Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, minister of Education, Youth and Sport (MOEYS), MOEYS leadership, and representatives from campaign partners at Institute of Technology of Cambodia. Campaign partners include Smart Axiata, Sipar Cambodia, World Vision Cambodia, Room to Read, ChildFund Cambodia, World Education, Kampuchea Action for Primary Education, Komar Rien Komar Cheh program, Save the Children, Shanti Volunteer Association Cambodia, Caring for Cambodia, and Cambodian Children’s Fund.

H.E Dr. Hang Chuon Naron highlights, “it is evident that early reading is the foundation of quality education. The #ReadEveryDay campaign catalyzes early reading habits in Cambodia that will help our children achieve quality education and lifelong learning.”

Meloney C. Lindberg, country representative of The Asia Foundation Cambodia, commented that all partners share the same goal: to promote positive and fun reading experiences among children and their teachers, parents, and relatives. Lindberg stressed, “This is a nation-wide, public campaign that anyone can participate in by picking up a book and happily reading with your children or students. Just five minutes a day of reading can have a huge impact on our children’s lives.”

“We recognize the value of reading as a vital tool for improving basic literacy as well as to spark imagination amongst children, especially at an early age. We are delighted to be part of this unique campaign which involves many of our other partners as well as the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports – all with the same vision of advancing basic literacy in Cambodia. We hope everyone will join us in this great initiative,” remarked Jonathan Yap, head of Regulatory and Corporate Affairs at Smart Axiata.

Let’s Read builds a world where curious and educated readers create thriving societies. We bring together the talent of local partners and the power of technology to create and translate relatable children’s books while nurturing reading habits that enable children to reach important developmental milestones, families to share stories that affirm their culture, and communities to benefit from the contributions of all of their members.
