Lotus Leadership Awards: Beyond a Sustainable Supply Chain
On April 6 in New York City, The Asia Foundation will honor the GSRD Foundation with its annual Lotus Leadership Award for advancing women’s entrepreneurship and economic empowerment.
GSRD is the philanthropic arm of G-Star Raw Denim, a Dutch brand widely known for its adventurous fashions, partnering with style-makers like Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams, and dressing Eminem for the 2022 Superbowl halftime show.
But G-Star has another side: promoting sustainability. G-Star has been a pioneer in cleaning up the denim supply chain, using organic and recycled cotton and developing the cleanest indigo dying process ever formulated, with no salts and 70 percent fewer chemicals.
Fifteen years ago, G-Star launched the GSRD Foundation, and with it a long-term commitment to give back to the countries where its cotton is grown and its jeans are sewn, including China, Vietnam, and Bangladesh. Now an Asia Foundation partner, GSRD also shares our commitment to advancing women’s empowerment.
In this week’s podcast, Executive Director Yung Joo Lockhorn Lamberts explains why the GSRD Foundation believes corporate social responsibility means more than just cleaning up the supply chain: it means investing in the communities where their products are made.
