The Phnom Penh Post Highlights the Foundation’s Work to Advance Safe, Human-Centered AI in ASEAN
The Phnom Penh Post recently highlighted the Foundation’s contributions to promoting safe and inclusive AI across the ASEAN region at a side event for the 20th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology, and Innovation. The event, “Human-Centered AI Adoption in ASEAN,” was hosted in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation and the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation. Discussions centered around the latest advancements in AI technologies, associated challenges and opportunities, and the creation of policy and governance frameworks to ensure the adoption of responsible AI in ASEAN.
Thomas Parks, vice president of strategic partnerships at The Asia Foundation, urged ASEAN to lead in AI adoption, acknowledging the region’s challenges but highlighting its advantages, such as a youthful and connected population.
“The collaboration between The Asia Foundation and Stanford HAI seeks to help stakeholders in the region use AI’s benefits and reduce its risks. A human-centred approach to AI development is crucial for ASEAN,” said Parks.
