Indonesia Launches Data-Powered Innovation to Tackle Extreme Poverty
Indonesia is a rising powerhouse in Southeast Asia, committed to eradicating extreme poverty by 2024. While the country’s poverty rate has declined to 1.1% in 2023, provinces like East Nusa Tenggara face higher rates, with extreme poverty affecting 3.9% of the population. Achieving this ambitious target requires improved data accuracy and program integration.
On November 12, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) ERAT program, partnered with the provincial government of East Nusa Tenggara to launch Padu Padan Data Kemiskinan Ekstrem Papadanke (Papadanke), a groundbreaking dashboard designed to synchronize extreme poverty data. The event, held in Kota Kupang and attended by government representatives and USAID ERAT officials, featured remarks from the Vice Minister for Social Affairs and the head of the newly established Poverty Alleviation Acceleration Agency.
What is Papadanke?
Launched in early 2024 by the Provincial Development Planning, Research, and Innovation Agency with support from USAID ERAT, Papadanke plays a vital role in supporting East Nusa Tenggara’s Poverty Reduction Coordination Team.
Drawing from East Java’s success, it streamlines poverty data into a transparent dashboard, enabling data-driven strategies for governments, civil society, and private partners to optimize poverty alleviation efforts.
The data dashboard improves the transparency of multiple synchronized poverty databases. The analyses’ results will be utilized by provincial and local government offices in the province, as well as civil society organizations and the private sector, to shape future poverty alleviation efforts in the region.
Why Papadanke matters?
- Mainstreams data-driven information for document organization and provincial budgeting, focusing on extreme poverty alleviation.
- Supports the evaluation and monitoring of poverty program implementation by the Regional Government.
- Forms the basis for recommendations to improve future program targeting, prioritizing areas based on welfare levels and regional financial capabilities.
- Ensures access to by-name-by-address (BNBA) feedback data for the P3KE (Extreme Poverty Eradication Acceleration Program) database from the provincial to the national government.
