Strengthening Social Cohesion in Sri Lanka Call for Proposals

Students stand together for a presentation

The “Strengthening Social Cohesion in Sri Lanka” project, implemented by The Asia Foundation with support from Global Affairs Canada has opened a call for proposals for Sri Lanka organizations. This two-year project aims to build capacity for local civil society organizations (CSOs) focusing on strengthening women’s networks and movements to ensure that local communities, particularly women and girls, and marginalized groups, benefit from greater social cohesion and improved community resilience in Sri Lanka. Under this project, strengthening social cohesion is understood as enabling a safe and secure environment for all communities, especially youth, women, and girls, through equitable access to local information and services, inclusive engagement in decision-making, and a strengthened sense of civic education and civic responsibility.

This call for applications offers funding opportunities for projects promoting local CSO efforts in achieving strengthened inter-/intra-community and community-state relations through sustainable initiatives and greater and more meaningful participation of women and marginalized groups in local CSO-led efforts to promote social cohesion and community resilience. Projects funded will be 6-12 months in duration.

Organizations eligible for funding should be registered in Sri Lanka and be not-for-profit entities. Applicants must be based and operating in one of the following districts: Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara, Jaffna, Mannar, Kalutara, Kurunegala, Kandy, Badulla, and Galle. Applicants operating in multiple districts but within a single province will also be considered. Organizations applying for this call should be experienced in women and girls-focused programming with a mandate to work on social cohesion and inclusion work. Organizations that are selected for funding will also receive technical support for projects that promote these outcomes, including tailor-made capacity-building training.
