Director, Environmental Governance, Indonesia

R. Alam Surya Putra has worked with The Asia Foundation since 2004, currently as director for the Environmental Governance unit in Indonesia. He is responsible for developing and managing environmental governance projects in the area of promoting good governance in the environmental sector, freedom of information and transparency, policy reform, public finance management on land-based industries, rule of law and corruption investigation, social audit and strengthening civil society capacity on policy reform. Manage over 50 national and local partners in over 60 districts and provinces.

He has over twenty years’ experience in governance and decentralization, economic reform and development, and civil society engagement. He has been working on environmental governance issues on promoting sustainable forest and land management. Over ten years, he managed projects on promoting good governance in the environmental sector, freedom of information and transparency, policy reform, public finance management on land-based industries, rule of law, and corruption investigation in the natural resources sector. He also worked as a consultant at the World Bank on local economic development issues and led a local NGO focused on the development of small and medium enterprises.

Education: Alam Surya Putra graduated from Airlangga University, Surabaya, Indonesia with a degree in Anthropology.
