About Our Work in Malaysia
In Malaysia, we promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth through the development of a highly skilled workforce, focusing on the digital skills and experience that women and girls need to succeed. We conduct research and engage policymakers to advance Malaysia’s environmental agenda and support decision-making regarding its care economy. At the regional level, our Malaysia office coordinates several multicountry digital upskilling initiatives.

What We Do
Accessing the Digital Economy
As an advanced middle-income country, Malaysia requires a highly skilled and resilient workforce.
Covid-19 badly impacted Malaysia’s small and medium enterprises, many of which are led by women. The Foundation provides training, mentoring, and skill-building to enable them to move their small businesses online, attend entrepreneurship workshops, access careers in tech, and upgrade their digital literacy.

Growing the blue economy
With its expansive coastal and river communities, Malaysia’s Sabah is increasingly recognizing the blue economy as a tool for fostering a balanced approach to economic growth that benefits all.
TAF examined community-driven initiatives within Sabah’s blue economy, which comprises four main activities: sustainable management of living resources through fisheries and aquaculture, responsible extraction of non-living resources like minerals and renewable energy, promotion of maritime commerce and trade, and mitigating threats to ocean health like pollution and waste.
The report emphasizes the importance of community-led projects that focus on sustainable resource management, youth education and employment, and cultural preservation. This approach aims to support more sustainable economic development by enabling local communities to play an active role in environmental stewardship and the overall success of Sabah’s blue economy.
